The FALLING LEAVES SCARF/WRAP is beautiful with its texture & large enough to wrap yourself up nicely to stay warm!
After getting our new puppy a few weeks ago, I knew that with Fall on its way that I’d need something to help keep me warm on those cold mornings when walking my dog. I looked through my yarn stash and found 4 skeins of worsted Brava yarn and I thought, “What cam I make with this?” The colour “Seraphim” was perfect to go with my denim jacket and my fall jacket so I started designing! I was inspired to design this scarf/wrap with versatility in mind. It would even be beautiful over your shoulders when on a night out!
The scarf/wrap is made by starting at one end, working the edging with knits and purls and then working in the leaf patterning until you reach the number of rows needed to achieve the length minus the end edging.
The scarf comes in one size which measures 67 inches (170 cm) wide, 17 inches (43 cm) wide. Below you will find everything you need to make this pattern including yarn, needles, materials, written pattern, pictures. If you like this knit scarf/wrap pattern, please share!
A knitted piece that will never go out of style
This pattern uses knits, purls & decreases. To achieve the holes yarn overs are done. All are explained in the pattern so don’t worry if you are not familiar with these stitches….I have got you covered! The pattern includes step by written instructions with detailed explanations of all stitches used and how to do them.
Yarn
This pattern uses a worsted weight yarn (4). I used Knit Picks Brava worsted yarn in the colour Seraphim. Any yarn weight 4 will do though!
You will need 4 skeins of this yarn or if using another worsted weight (4) yarn approximately 800 yards.
Yarn Alternatives
I tried different worsted weight yarns with this pattern and some of my other favourites were Loops & Threads Impeccable & Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn.
Needles
US 6.5 mm or whatever size you need to obtain the correct gauge
Gauge
4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm): 16 st x 20 rows in stockinette stitch
Knitting Stitches Used
Knit (k)
Purl (p)
Knit 2 Together (k2tog): is a right-leaning decrease stitch. To do this insert your right needle into the first two stitches on your left needle from left to right. Wrap the yarn around the tip of the right needle. Pull the yarn through both stitches. Drop the 2 original stitches from the left knitting needle.
Purl 2 Together (p2tog): Insert your right needle into the first two stitches on the left needle from right to left. (So, just as you would for a normal purl stitch, but through two stitches). Wrap the yarn around the needle counter-clockwise. Pull the working yarn through both stitches. Slip off both stitches.
Purl 2 Together Through the Back Loops (p2tog tbl): A right leaning decrease on the wrong side. Insert the right hand needle into the next two stitches on the left hand needle through the back loops (the loops farthest from you); wrap yarn around the needle in the same way you normally would to purl and purl the two stitches together.
Slip, Slip, Knit (ssk): a neat left-leaning decrease. To do this slip 1 stitch knitwise, slip 1 more stitch knitwise. Insert your left needle through the front of the 2 slipped stitches. Wrap your yarn around the right needle (it’s in behind) and pull the loop through both of the slipped stitches, knitting them together.
Yarn Over (yo): you are adding an extra stitch to your work. When you go back over this stitch on the next row, you will get a lace-like hole in your work that also acts as an increase.
