The AURORA BOREALIS CROCHET SHAWLETTE is a quick project and so easy to make!
After visiting my LYS (local yarn store) I found a gorgeous yarn…Malabrigo Washted in the colour Anverisario. The colours were so vibrant and beautiful and it reminded me of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) that we see up in Canada from time to time. I was inspired to design this shawlette as I imagined the versatility of its size, being neither too big and bulky or too small, and to make something that I could wear that I could mix and match different pieces of my wardrobe to. Perfect to wear on a cool Spring or Fall day, this gorgeous accent will complete your style.
The shawlette is made by starting at one end, and increasing on one side only to the mid point centre, and then decreasing on the same said as the increases were made down to the last stitches at the other end of the shawlette.
Tassels are then made and tied onto each end. This gives each end some weight when worn.
The shawlette comes in one size which measures 72 inches (183 cm) wide, 11 inches (30 cm) depth at middle section. Below you will find everything you need to make this pattern including yarn, hook, materials, written pattern, pictures. If you like this crochet shawlette pattern, please share!

Yarn
This pattern uses a worsted weight yarn (4). I used Malabrigo Washted yarn in Anniversario as I was inspired by the beautiful colours in it. Any yarn weight 4 will do though!
You will need 2 skeins of this yarn or if using another worsted weight (4) yarn approximately 425 yards.
Yarn Alternatives
I tried different worsted weight yarns with this pattern and some of my other favourites were always with varigated colours. I used Loops & Threads Facets yarn. I works up the same with the gauge.
Hook
US 4.25 mm or whatever size you need to obtain the correct gauge
Gauge
4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm): 16 st x 9 rows in double crochet
Crochet Stitches Used
Double Crochet: dc (insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull through, yarn over and pull through the first two loops on the hook and then yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops on the hook)
5 Double Crochet Bobble: bobble (Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through (three loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 of the loops. Repeat the previous step four more times so that you have five not-quite-complete dc stitches worked into the same stitch. There will be six loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all six loops. This closes your bobble crochet stitch)
Double Crochet 2 Together: dc2tog (start the first double crochet stitch, leave it incomplete, start the second stitch, and complete both stitches together)
